Hazeltine Landscape Project
Villa Azure
Located along Sarasota Bay, this residence posed both exciting opportunities and significant challenges. The client came to the table with a strong knowledge of construction practices and a desire to be closely involved throughout the design and build process. Balancing the client’s detailed input with sound landscape design principles, especially within the constraints of the property’s proximity to the bay and strict city regulations, was central to the project’s success.
From the beginning, our goal was to harmonize the owner’s vision with a timeless, sustainable landscape design. The design had to meet both aesthetic and environmental demands, requiring careful consideration at every stage. We worked diligently to translate the owner’s ideas into a cohesive plan, ensuring that each element supported the overall character of the home and site.
Notable features include:
Driveway Design: One of the most challenging and rewarding aspects was the coral stone driveway. Designed with precision, the dense coral material was detailed with sod inserts and custom coral curbing. The intricate plans were sent to the Dominican Republic for fabrication, and each piece was installed on-site with exacting accuracy. The driveway alone became a focal element—elevating the entrance experience and showcasing craftsmanship.
Hardscape & Planting: The hardscape elements contribute to the relaxed Florida feel, while the allée of Royal Palms provides a strong sense of symmetry and formality. This contrast adds depth to the property’s overall design, striking a harmonious balance between architectural structure and natural softness.
In the end, this collaborative effort was recognized when the property was awarded Home of the Year—a testament to the synergy between client vision and professional design execution. The resulting landscape delivers a “relaxed formal” atmosphere, offering a welcoming elegance unique to coastal Florida living.
